When I start my 2002 Honda Civic, the SRS light flashes and the bell chimes six times. What does that mean?

Does it mean that the supplemental restraint system has a problem or does it (the six chimes) indicate something else? It only chimes six times at start up and then the SRS light goes off.|||It is probably the self test, making sure the sensors are functioning...it goes away, and stays off, right?

Computerized cars do a number of "checks" right at start up, to make sure the different systems are giving correct signals...if the computer decides it has all the right signals, all the warning lights go off and stay off...if something is wrong, the light stays on, telling "you" that something is wrong, and to get it repaired. It is called interaction...|||get your airbags check.|||its party time!!!

trade it in

when it hits 10 beeps it will blow|||normal from what i have learned srs system will test itself when you start the car. the flashing should be the srs is just testing itself, as long as it goes out there should not be a problem with the system. the six chimes is, well could be normal or not, check the owners manuel.|||You need to read your owner's manual....just joking...Your SRS is being tested. It stops dinging after the test is completed and the car has figured out that the SRS is fine.|||This vehicle does not use Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's). If a malfunction is detected by the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) unit, the SRS indicator light in the Gage assembly comes ON.

If there is a failure in the sensors, SRS unit, inflator, or their circuits, the SRS indicator light in the Gage assembly comes ON. As a system check, the SRS indicator light also comes on when the ignition is first turned ON to the (II) position. If the light goes off after approximately six seconds, the system is okay. If the SRS indicator light remains on (or fails to come on in the system chock mode), one of the SRS components (or the wiring/connectors in-between) is faulty.

Each individual component needs to be checked to determine where the problem is. Since there is a very real possibility that the airbags may deploy while testing the system, I highly recommend letting a Honda dealer test it.|||it means that some one has broken into your car
